Discovering Lucio Trojano Lucio Trojano
Lanciano, 1934
Graduated in Law but passionate humorist, in his long career he boasts important collaborations with Italian and foreign newspapers and with Rai television programs. He is also the author of lively volumes on the ancient Italic people and his works are housed in various museums (Basel, Smyrna, Gabrovo, Tolentino...).
The list of prizes is equally rich. In addition to those of Bordighera (in 1990, together with his wife Marcella, he won the Palme d'Or for Illustrated Literature), in 1972 he obtained the
Strasbourg Council of Europe Award for the theme Venice must be saved; and then, the Berlin World Caricature Exhibition Award, the
Scalarini Political Satire Award, the Golden Valentine's Day in Terni, the President of the Republic Award (in 2011). Also at the Bordighera Show, he was part of the jury from 1979 to 1999, an activity which he also carried out in other national and international events.
I went to Bordighera in 1967 to collect an award; I had been participating in the Salone since 1955 and it was a great emotion to meet so many famous artists. Particularly strong and present for me was the knowledge and meeting with Cesare Perfetto, creator and organizer of the Salone.
I have always loved the spirit, the atmosphere, the friendship that arises spontaneously between comedians from all over the world and the ‘small’ hours between bars and restaurants, between memories, anecdotes and projects for the future.
Many consider humorous drawing a minor art; for me it is fantasy, freedom and love… practically a life project. Representing in a civilized humorous way the contradictory aspects of our society can reveal the sense of a positive interpretation of human behavior.
Humor for me is a serious thing. It does not limit itself to capturing a smile, it aims, instead, to arouse an introspective capacity to search for a possible truth.
Every age experiences its own disenchantment. The unspecified age of each one infuses among others in mutual relationships, feelings, ideas and contents through its own forms of communication. The most congenial form in me has been revealed since youth through the synthesis of a simple and clear thought as my drawings show.
In expressing myself, caution has been my guide. With an appreciated drawing (1972, Venice is to be saved) interpreted with rigid consideration, I risked serious legal consequences; a reversal of the interpretation has instead codified the exact, positive reading of the drawing.
A smiling pencil becomes a human mask, a symbol capable of characterising the humorous meeting of the Salone
ASSOCIAZIONE SALONE INTERNAZIONALE UMORISMO
The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.
We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
