Agostino e Franco Origone

Augustine Origone, Genoa, 1946

Franco Origone, Genoa, 1950 - 2014.

A frank cartoonist and illustrator, Agostino was instead the creator of the texts: the Origone brothers debuted on the pages of the newspaper of their hometown, Il Lavoro, in 1973. The following year they landed in the magazine Il Mago (Mondadori) with the character of Petrus, anxious dictator of an indefinite country. In 1976 it was the turn of another satirical strip, Nilus, set in ancient Egypt, which achieved immediate success and which lasted as an independent publication until Franco's premature death in 2014. Another character of theirs should also be remembered, the hilarious secret agent John Killer, parody of the various 007s and, since 1980, cartoons for the newspaper Il Secolo XIX.

Word of a Humorist

Different latitudes and languages, personal lives and collective lives, humor as a litmus test of the world
1 - A memory of Salone and Bordighera

The green lawn in front of the Salone - Corso Italia - Cesare's disarrayed shop - The tall and dwarf palm trees - The unripe dates.

2- What did you like the most about Salone

Everything. And especially friends who want to joke; I confess that I have always had fun and made others have fun.

3 - What is it the humour for you?

It's innate. It's breaking the mold. It's salt on top of bland soup.

4 - Your life as a humorist, if you look back what cartoon do you see?

Not having been a painter, like before my brother brought me a sketch with Nilus and said “make him talk”.

5 - Were you born humorists or did you become such?

A curious person who bends a starry sky to see what's behind it.

6 - Risk or caution, what has characterised your professional life the most?

Organisation

7 - One of your cartoons that you'd like to dedicate today to the Salone, why?

Jacovitti

9 - Humor today: its state of health. And behind the curve what do you expect?

I hope it's good, but I don't care because I know what's next (comedians are very serious).

Salone Internazionale dell'Umorismo

The event could not have lasted for over fifty years without the contribution of numerous "volunteers" and "precepts" who brought enthusiasm and desire to do whatever the task received, with nineteenth-century shifts! From the choice of the drawings, to the preparation of the panels (always the same every year), to the posting with various pins of the hundreds of drawings up to the presence on stage.

We therefore want to thank, in absolutely no order but with equal contributions, all those who come to mind, apologizing if we miss some, but we are ready to fix it!
