34th Edition of the International Exhibition of Humor
Theme of the year: SUSTAINABLE CITIES
This year the theme was freely chosen by the participants themselves and by the "friends of the Salone", a brotherhood that becomes more numerous and fierce every year and which constitutes the "reserve" army of the event.
The theme is welcomed by the Council of Europe and is part of the "European campaign for the rebirth of cities" which aims to raise public awareness of urbanization.
Therefore, the Council of Europe is again in charge of organizing exhibitions in various European cities and capitals, ending the tour in West Berlin where the Council of Europe Award will also be awarded to the winners of the Fixed theme: Toso Brokovic and Melanton.

Benigni receives the Palma d'Oro branch; here is the acceptance telegram: “Thank you and congratulate the copper palm gold award unsure if I will be at Bordighera on September 2nd - surely I will be there on July 31st to go on. Roberto Benigni ".
This year the international aspect of the event is characterized above all by the presence of 40 Yugoslavian citizens on a prize trip having answered exactly the questions of the television quiz organized last winter by the TV of the Yugoslav Republic in collaboration with the humor magazine Jez.
On the evening of 30 July, the film 'Pap’occhio ”is screened in the presence of Roberto Benigni, Renzo Arbore, Luciano De Crescenzo and Diana De Curtis. The latter also intervenes in the presentation of the biography of his father Totò, written by Giancarlo Governi.
The final evening includes, after the awards ceremony, a concert by the Venice Ensemble which will perform music by Vivaldi, Rossini and Bottesini. Speaking of awards, needless to say what the trio Arbore, Benigni, De Crescenzo did on stage!
