23rd Edition of the International Exhibition of Humor
Theme of the year: SAY NO TO DRUGS!
First of all, we point out that the city of Bordighera turns 500 years old, having been founded in 1470 by 32 families who, gathered in assembly, decided to rebuild a village that had been destroyed. (https://www.bordighera.it/storia/la_nostra_storia/nel_1470).
There are not many drawings left of this edition with a very explicit theme, in a complex historical period.
Bill Brewer, USA, wins the Palme d'Or, Dante Petrini, Italy, the Golden Date of the Fixed Theme and Nehar Tublek, Turkey, designs the manifesto. Giovannino Guareschi, Italy, wins the Palme d'Or for Humorous Literature with "Don Camillo and the Youth of Today".

The events of the week include a round table on "Humor in the civilization of images" chaired by Guido Guarda, journalist and writer of image criticism. With the participation of Umberto Domina, Alfredo Ferruzza, Pino Zac and Vezio Melegari.
Iva Zanicchi is the guest of honor of the awards ceremony. The famous singer interprets some songs that Mikis Teodorakis composed for her.
Three other events enrich the 23rd edition:
Dick Ericson, P.R. manager of the National Cartoonist Society arriving to deliver the "Distinguished Service Award" to Cesare Perfetto, the highest recognition for non-designers.
Victor Veselovski, Culture Director of Literaturnaja Gazieta in Moscow, attends the closing of the Exhibition.
Finally, the Salone embarks on a cruise in the Mediterranean on the motor ship Michelangelo with Sophia Loren, Raymond Peynet, Carlo Silva and Adele and Cesare Perfetto.
